Travis Kelce: Kansas City Chiefs tight end agrees three-year $54.7m contract extension

Travis Kelce has officially signed a three-year $54.7m contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs after recently confirming he is staying with the team.

The veteran tight end quashed retirement speculation earlier this offseason as he committed to remaining in Kansas City for at least another season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that he has agreed a $54.735m deal potentially worth up to $57.735m.

"Chiefs Kingdom, let's go baby! It's official, excited for 2026 and just excited to put on the Chiefs uniform in front of you guys again," Kelce said on Instagram. "Let's get Arrowhead rockin' baby, we'll see you in a few months!"

The length of the deal should give Kelce some flexibility on his future moving forward as the Chiefs wait on the return of Patrick Mahomes from a serious knee injury that saw him undergo surgery late last season. Should Mahomes' recovery stretch into the opening weeks of the 2026 campaign, Kelce would still potentially have the opportunity to play another full campaign with his star quarterback.

Kelce has won three Super Bowl rings during his 13 campaigns with the team as one of the leading faces of Andy Reid's Chiefs dynasty alongside Mahomes, with whom he has formed one of the league's most prolific tandems.

The 36-year-old helped Kansas City reach the Super Bowl in five of six seasons from 2019-2024 while breaking NFL records in postseason receptions, Super Bowl receptions and postseason touchdown catches by a tight end.

Kelce, a third-round pick for the Chiefs in 2013, finished the 2025 campaign with 76 catches for 851 yards through the air as the Chiefs fell to a 6-11 finish while missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Despite a disappointing season, Kelce still managed to become the third tight end in NFL history to reach 13,000 receiving yards, doing so in a record time of just 192 games.

The Chiefs bolstered their offense during free agency by acquiring Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III on a three-year $45m deal. Kansas City also added quarterback Justin Fields as Mahomes continues his recovery.
