Amanda Serrano: ‘When I started, women weren't getting these opportunities. We were fighting for recognition'

Amanda Serrano believes women’s boxing has reached a new level.

Serrano is a trailblazing, multi-weight world champion herself, who's competed with Katie Taylor over the course of an iconic trilogy.

She works closely with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which has launched a new series of women's boxing events, MVPW, starting with the Caroline Dubois vs Terri Harper and Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores double-header on Sunday April 5, live on Your Site.

"When I started boxing, women weren't getting these opportunities. We were fighting for recognition, for equal pay, and for the chance to compete on the biggest stages," Serrano said.

"Seeing MVP launch MVPW and put together cards like the one in London with four women's world title fights shows how much the sport is evolving.

"The women competing on these cards are making history every time they step into the ring, and platforms like this are helping push women's boxing exactly where it belongs, which is right at the top of the sport."

MVP, which was co-founded by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, will promote Alycia Baumgardner vs Bo Mi Re Shin for the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world titles at Infosys Theater in Madison Square Garden on April 17 and the WBA lightweight world title fight between Stephanie Han and Holly Holm on May 30 in Texas.

Jake Paul said: "International Women's Day is about recognizing women who are redefining what's possible. At MVP, supporting women has always been a priority. From investing in world champions to building major platforms year-round, we believe women deserve equal spotlight, equal respect, and equal opportunity in boxing.

"At its core, MVP is a true meritocracy, with no difference if you are a female or male fighter. The UK has some of the most exciting talent in the sport right now, and we're proud that the first MVPW event will showcase that."

Nakisa Bidarian added: "From the day Jake and I founded MVP, we believed women's boxing deserved the same platform, investment, and opportunity as the men. The launch of MVPW is the natural evolution of that commitment, a global stage dedicated to the best female fighters in the sport.

"On International Women's Day, it's important to recognize how far women's boxing has come and how much potential still lies ahead. Our first MVPW event in London, featuring Caroline Dubois vs Terri Harper and Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores, reflects the strength of the UK talent pipeline and the role these athletes are playing in driving the next era of the sport."

Watch the Caroline Dubois vs Terri Harper and Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores bill on Sunday April 5 live Your Site.
